“No
person knows what is kept hidden for them of joy as a reward
for what they used to do.” (Quran 32: 17 Translated
meaning)
Paradise is the place promised to believers for their belief
in Allah and for their devotion to Him. Paradise, as
described in many verses, is a place enveloped in many kinds
of blessings and it is a residence of eternal bliss. Allah
awards the believers with paradise as compensation for their
deeds in the world.
Paradise is a place where the "Merciful" (the mercy of Whom
is exclusively for the believers, the Most Merciful, Who
awards those who properly use His blessings with more
superior and eternal blessings) attribute of Allah is
revealed. Paradise, therefore, is a home of delight that
harbours everything that a person's soul may desire and even
more as described in the verses.
In some people's minds, the word "paradise" conjures up
rather limited notions, for they suppose paradise to be a
place of merely natural beauty, such as a delightful meadow.
There is, however, a great difference between this limited
notion and the paradise described in the Quran.
In the Quran, paradise is described as a place containing
everything a person may desire:
“Trays of gold and cups will be passed round them, (there
will be) therein all that the one's inner-selves could
desire, all that the eyes could delight in, and you will
abide therein forever. This is the Paradise which you have
been made to inherit because of your deeds which you used to
do (in the life of the world).” (Quran 43: 71-72 Translated
meaning)
In another verse we are told that in paradise there is even
more than what man could want:
“There will be for them therein all that they wish,- and
more besides in Our Presence” (Quran 50: 35 Translated
meaning )
In other words, contrary to general belief, paradise has
numerous blessings to offer, blessing such as remained
unseen by human beings throughout their lives in this world
and even unimaginable to them. Believers will be granted
eternal life in paradise in return for their obedience to
Allah in the life of this world and for their having lived
according to His wishes.
The paradise that is promised to the believers is described
in various verses:
“And give glad tidings to those who
believe and do righteous good deeds, that for them will be
Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise). Every time they
will be provided with a fruit therefrom, they will say:
"This is what we were provided with before," and they will
be given things in resemblance (i.e. in the same form but
different in taste) and they shall have therein pure mates
and they will abide therein forever. (Quran 2: 25
Translated meaning)
"Truly! The Muttaqun (pious and
righteous persons) will be amidst Gardens and water-springs
(Paradise). (It will be said to them): Enter therein
(Paradise), in peace and security. And We shall remove from
their breasts any sense of injury (that they may have), (So
they will be like) brothers facing each other on thrones. No
sense of fatigue shall touch them, nor shall they (ever) be
asked to leave it." (Quran 15: 45-48 Translated
meaning)
“These! For them will be Adn (Eden) Paradise (everlasting
Gardens); wherein rivers flow underneath them, therein they
will be adorned with bracelets of gold, and they will wear
green garments of fine and thick silk. They will recline
therein on raised thrones. How good is the reward, and what
an excellent resting place (dwelling)!” (Quran 18: 31
Translated meaning)
“Verily, the dwellers of the Paradise,
that Day, will be busy in joyful things. They and their
wives will be in pleasant shade, reclining on thrones. They
will have therein fruits (of all kinds) and all that they
ask for. (It will be said to them): Salamun (peace be on
you), a Word from the Lord (Allah), Most Merciful.”
(Quran 36: 55-58 Translated meaning)
“Verily! The Muttaqun (pious), will be
in place of Security (Paradise). Among Gardens and Springs;
Dressed in fine silk and (also) in thick silk, facing each
other. So (it will be), and We shall marry them to Houris
(female fair ones) with wide, lovely eyes. They will call
therein for every kind of fruit in peace and security; They
will never taste death therein except the first death (of
this world), and He will save them from the torment of the
blazing Fire, As a Bounty from your Lord! That will be the
supreme success!” (Quran 44: 51-57 Translated
meaning)
“And those who believe (in the Oneness
of Allah Islamic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds, to
them We shall surely give lofty dwellings in Paradise,
underneath which rivers flow, to live therein forever.
Excellent is the reward of the workers.” (Quran 29:
58 Translated meaning)
